Rafa Macarrón

Rafa Macarrón, born in Spain and based in Madrid, is a self-taught artist known for his fusion of playful drawing and figuration with bold chromatic abstraction. Drawing inspiration from his background as a physiotherapist, Macarrón manipulates anatomical elements in his works, creating distorted figures with exaggerated features. His dreamlike aesthetic combines popular-cultural influences from comics and cartoons with abstract figuration, reminiscent of artists like Paul Klee, Arshile Gorky, and Jean Dubuffet. Macarrón's compositions feature two contrasting landscapes, one emphasizing isolation in textured color fields, and the other depicting overcrowded worlds with absurdist infrastructures.
